Isambard Kingdom Brunel's 207 Birthday

It is now 207 years ago to the day that Isambard Kingdom Brunel was born.

Brunel was a legendary engineer in the context of British history, but even more so if you happen to be from Bristol.

Within our fair city he designed the SS Great Britain which was the first ship equipped with a screw propeller to be built of iron, and which did many extraordinary journeys across the world.
Of course he was responsible for the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge which is the main landmark in Bristol and which still wows everyone who comes to Bristol.

Brunels legacy

And let us not forget that Isambard Kingdom Brunel designed Brunel's Old Station in 1841, which was a Passenger Shed for those getting off the train at Temple Meads station.

It was the final stop on his famous Great Western Railway connecting the ornate Temple Meads with another one of his great projects at Paddington. Brunel is now considered among the greatest talents this country has ever produced, coming second in a BBC poll to determine the 100 greatest Britons, after Winston Churchill.

So when you organise an event at Brunelís Old Station, whether it is a wedding, an exhibition or a conference, you are also becoming a part of Brunelís historic legacy. This is an atmospheric venue which can hold 900 guests or delegates and it is truly one of the most beautiful event venues in Bristol, if not the world!
