The Cat's Meow Emporium and Kabaret

A Bristol event celebrating the best of the Roaring Twenties will be held at the historic venue of Brunel’s Old Station in November.

The Cat's Meow Emporium and Kabaret is a showcase of all the best music art and fashion from the Prohibition era (the Cat`s Meow is 1920s slang for something wonderful).

Organized by Jezebel Events, the Cat's Meow Emporium is an ideal fit with the historic Brunel’s Old Station, which dates back to the 1840s when the project was finished by Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

It takes place on November 17 from 12pm-12am.

Describing the event on their website, Jezebel Events state: “We’ve been lucky enough to work with some amazing people on this spectacular feast for the senses!

“Once inside, you will be swept back to the Roaring Twenties with vintage music and a shopping village selling clothes and period home ware. Or you could have a 20’s makeover, lounge in the Opium Den chill-out area or join in with the tea dance. We encourage everyone to dress 20’s or 30’s style or just come as you are and soak up the atmosphere.”

Some quirky attractions include a Prohibition Bar serving forbidden booze, Shanghai Sam’s Opium Den, a vintage shopping emporium and a hair and make-up boudoir.

The Black Cat Café has excellent tea and cakes, as well as an afternoon tea dance including lessons in period dances like the Charleston. In the evening it will become the elegant Black Cat Cocktail Bar.

The vintage shopping emporium has an eclectic collection of goods, and is the perfect place to pick up something unusual before Christmas.

The whole event is also family friendly with play areas and crèches for children, though at 6pm the cabaret entertainment starts so this is a cut off point. There are also a few surprises for children but these will be TOP SECRET until the actual day.

Keep an eye on the Cat's Meow website for more information on how to purchase tickets.
